5 Signs That Indicate It’s Time to Replace Your Eyeglasses

Your vision changes over time, which is why you should schedule regular eye exams. Your optometrist will be able to check your eye health and determine if your current prescription is right for you. If you experience any of these symptoms, then we suggest visiting your eye doctor to see if your prescription needs to be adjusted. Here are five warning signs you need new eyeglasses:

5 Signs That Indicate It’s Time to Replace Your Eyeglasses

  1. Blurry Vision – If your lens prescription is off by even a few degrees, then you will experience blurry vision. However, the blurriness may also be caused by your eyes adjusting to a new pair of eyeglasses. The adjustment period should last for a maximum of two weeks. If it persists beyond that, then you might need new glasses.

  1. Headaches – Wearing the wrong prescription can cause eye strain that feels like a dull headache. To find out if your glasses are the problem, remove them for a period of time and see if you still experience headaches. If your headaches seem to be caused by your eyeglasses, contact your eye doctor.

  1. Vertigo – Vertigo is the feeling of being off balance and/or dizzy while standing or sitting. Vertigo can be caused by different things, including inner ear problems and blurry vision.

  1. Double Vision – Double vision might mean that you have problems with your eye muscles or your cornea. It is also a symptom of cataracts. You should contact your optometrist for an eye exam to find out the cause behind the double vision and determine whether you need new glasses.

  1. Squinting – Squinting lets in less light through your eyes which can help you get a clearer picture when you have problems with your vision. Many people squint to compensate for an eyeglass prescription that is slightly off. Unfortunately, this is taxing for the eye. You need to have an eye exam to see if you need new glasses.
